Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role as a cybersecurity professional focused on Operational Technology (OT), I am responsible for safeguarding critical infrastructure and industrial control systems against evolving cyber threats. My day-to-day activities revolve around ensuring the security and integrity of OT environments, while also acting as a bridge between IT and OT teams to promote a unified approach to cybersecurity.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I genuinely enjoy my programme and find it both challenging and rewarding. Working in cybersecurity—particularly in the OT space—keeps me constantly engaged, as there's always something new to learn and evolving threats to stay ahead of. I really value the hands-on nature of the work and the real-world impact it has, especially when it comes to protecting critical infrastructure.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, over the past period I’ve both learned new skills and deepened my expertise in several key areas. I’ve strengthened my knowledge of OT-specific cybersecurity practices, particularly around securing industrial control systems and applying defense-in-depth strategies tailored to these environments.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, the programme is well-structured and provides a solid foundation for both technical growth and professional development. The progression of learning and responsibilities has been thoughtfully designed, allowing me to build on core concepts before moving into more complex, real-world applications—especially in the context of OT cybersecurity.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer, which has made a big difference in both my development and confidence in the role. One of the most valuable aspects has been having a dedicated mentor—someone I can regularly turn to for guidance, feedback, and technical insight. That mentorship has been key in helping me navigate complex challenges, especially within the OT environment.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a great deal of support from my training provider, which has been essential in helping me stay on track with my qualifications. The trainers are knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to offer extra guidance when needed—whether that’s through one-to-one sessions, detailed feedback, or simply being available to answer questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification is helping me perform significantly better in my role. The content is highly relevant and complements the work I’m doing in cybersecurity—particularly in areas like risk management, security principles, and policy implementation. It’s given me a stronger technical foundation, which has made it easier to understand the “why” behind the practices we apply in the OT environment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are definitely extra-curricular activities to get involved in, especially when it comes to professional development and networking. I’ve had the opportunity to attend industry events such as CyberNorth, which was a great experience for connecting with others in the cybersecurity field, gaining insight into current trends, and expanding my professional network.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tekgem to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would absolutely recommend the company to a friend because it’s a supportive, forward-thinking environment that genuinely invests in your growth. From day one, I’ve felt like my development has been a priority—whether through mentorship, training opportunities, or the encouragement to attend industry events like CyberNorth. I love everything CYBER!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tekgem?
My biggest advice would be to show a genuine interest in cybersecurity—especially within the OT space—as it’s a unique and rewarding area that Tekgem specialises in.
