Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Reviewing and creating Governance, Risk and Compliance documents and performing remediation tasks for new and existing Critical National Infrastructure businesses across the UK and Europe. This could involve communicating in the office to ensure the quality of customer documents and performing project tasks on lab equipment, or travelling to an industrial site to perform work on production equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed learning the essential processes and procedures that run the sites that I have worked on and how these could be exploited by an attacker, which has allowed me to work individually to decide what controls are necessary to protect these processes while ensuring functionality is not lost.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed the skills to administer Windows workstations and servers in production environments to work as effectively and securely as possible on propriety and legacy hardware and software. I have developed my communication skills to ensure internal staff are up-to-date on projects I am working on and customers understand how cybersecurity controls are being implemented on their systems.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme follows a set path beginning with the basics required for the role and building on these to understand how networking, governance and SOC teams operate in tandem to create a secure baseline for protecting computer assets. Although some activities from the training provider are not communicated thoroughly enough to grasp what the final output should be.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The employer grants the required off-the-job hours to complete tasks related to the programme and provides tasks which can utilise the skills learnt in a practical and realistic way. Where additional support is required, flexible work hours allow for extra time to be given if needed and senior staff are always available to provide further support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider offers a dedicated tutor to provide support on the tasks who can be reached if needed. All information for the End Point Assessment are provided early to allow for revision of the topics needed to pass. However, communications to the assessor for the EPA via the provider can be time-consuming and may not be relayed correctly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
This qualification has allowed me to understand how to improve the processes and controls applied to customer equipment in order to provide the most effective security implementations possible while ensuring that this is communicated and monitored well to the customer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The employer provides free training for certifications related to the job role, for example CompTIA. Employees are invited to social and industry events with the team.
