Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently working as a Nurse Practitioner in a special surgery speciality. I undertake my own clinics and also the on-call - admitting, treating and discharge unwell patients. It was identified that I could do more in my role so I was invited to undertake an advanced practice apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I was nervous at first at going back to university but was supported to make the jump by the Trust's Advanced Practice and Talent for Care teams. I now thoroughly enjoy the programme. I feel in control of my learning and enjoy sharing what I have learnt.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am safely learning essential skills to improve my ability to care for patients. Examples of these include non-medical prescribing and advanced clinical assessment. I get to do this whilst also learning specialised skills within my original job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I am really happy with how the programme is structured. It felt like a lot at first but I given plenty of time to organise learning around working and normal life. I was gently reminded of deadlines and didn't feel chased or left behind.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has offered me endless support during the programme. My Line Manager has organised little 'catch-ups' throughout, and the Advanced Practice team have been treating me as one of their own. Talent for Care have kept me on-track, being an bridge between the Trust and the university.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The university have been amazing with their support. As previously mentioned, I have never felt like I have been missed or left behind. They have a inspiring roster of lecturers and support staff to keep me on track. I also have a dedicated study coach who I regularly meet with.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The Advanced Practice qualification, as well as my Masters, is going to transform my role. I will be able to confidently and competently perform with more autonomy and will allow me to keep my practice up-to-date. These qualifications are perfect for me and how I work and learn.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have been working in my department for a couple of years now and know I am part of a great team. We try our best to relax, and to get away from the stresses of work out-of-hours. A highlight for me was visiting North Norfolk with colleagues for a walking holiday, only to step out of the car into a flash rainstorm!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust to a friend?
Yes
Why?
ESNEFT wants to develop you as a person and as a professional. I started at Trust as a Student Nurse and now I am an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. My Line Manager already suggested plans for what's next!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust?
Talk to the recruiter and see where you could go. I had no idea what I wanted to do and where I wanted to work when I started but I was given the opportunity to work and learn in different areas. You will meet many people that will stand out to you in Trust - talk to them! They may give you an idea.
