Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
To support the Shift Manager with the day to day running of the shift & to cover when a Shift Manager is on annual leave/sick leave.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Manning
- Training
- Ensuring CCP's are complete
- Motivating the team to achieve targets
- Problem solving
- Resolving QIR's
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The people I came into to contact with were great, the trainers we had were also brilliant.
From a personal view, the learning style does not suit me, e-learning in-particular is something I find difficult and historically I learn by doing/experience.
If I were to go back in time, I would arguably not have agreed to do the course unless it was classed as a 'must complete' for my role.
This is not a reflection of the content or people, this is purely based on my own learning style and more importantly my struggles with e-learning/essay writing. I am aware that the assignments were not the most challenging but for someone who chose not to go to college/university because they prefer a 'hands-on' approach it and have been out of school for 20+ years, it was still quite a challenge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I wouldn't say that I have learnt anything new skill-wise but I have a deeper understanding of the 'why' in some areas. This makes certain things easier to explain to the team when completing tasks or when I am needing tasks completed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The Aptem programme is well laid out, pretty easy to navigate and the content isn't overly complicated however some items are not always relevant to my current role and quite difficult to relate to which then slows the progression down - effecting the structure.
The reviews with my trainer were also scheduled at good times, I think how the learner engages with the topics and manages their own time will hugely effect the organisational aspect of the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
In the early stages I feel the support wasn't always there, examples given were the expectation that I would know that I wasn't able to use my own vehicle for away days (I have business cover) and I would know how to use the system to book a rental car, book my room and claim back my expenses.
From a learning perspective, if I requested the time to complete any work I usually got it, there was just some difficulties in the early days with me not having a centre manager for a few months.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was great, she would always respond to any questions I had and supported in me anyway she could as she new that I wasn't the most comfortable with on-line learning.
She gave honest and constructive feedback and guided me well when I needed it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My initial feeling is that it will help if I choose to leave my position at Premier Foods and look to apply for similar roles elsewhere but I am unsure if it would help me in my day to day role within Premier currently. As I have mentioned, I believe my experience prior to Premier had equipped with me a skillset needed for the role but I may now have a deeper understanding of the skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
We have trips out that are organised via the relevant groups, we have a strong following for the golf society and none members are also welcome at a slightly increased cost.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It would depend on what they were looking for but if they were already in a similar role then I would likely recommend it as Premier seem to pay quite well, have good overtime rate, the hours are manageable with it being shifts, the annual leave allowance is good, the opportunity for progression is available, and the atmosphere for the most part is good.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
Be honest, don't say you can do something if you can't because at some point you will be found out. Always ask for help if needed, don't try to wing it.
Do your research on Premier, find out about the products, if you know people that work there, speak to them, but always be yourself.
