As a project controls apprentice on the Transpennine Route Upgrade, my role involves supporting the management of project costs, risks and changes. Day-to-day, I assist in data analysis, progress reporting, and maintaining accurate project documentation to ensure the work stays on track and within scope.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme as it offers a great balance of learning and real-world application. Being part of a major infrastructure project like the Transpennine Route Upgrade is exciting, and I enjoy experiencing being part of different teams within the project.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed skills in software such as excel, PowerBI, ProjectWise and power automate. I have also developed existing skills such as communication and teamwork.

Regular check-ins, and scheduled university days ensure I can develop my skills effectively while contributing to the project’s success. It provides a clear pathway for growth and progression.

They encourage my development by providing resources, answering questions, and involving me in meaningful tasks that help me grow professionally.
