Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am an assistant brand manager that leads and assists with campaigns in relation to my brand. My daily tasks include budget management, performance tracking, and commercial planning. Activities in relation to these streams include meetings (online and in person), emails and internet usage in order to complete them to a high standard.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy my working week, not so much my university day.
At work I thrive when being given responsibilities as well as new tasks that I can learn new skills and knowledge through. I do not enjoy my uni day because it is theory based in comparison to my normal working day which is practical/executional.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed my presenting skills and learnt how to run a multi-million pound budget.
Often, I receive tasks that require initiative so I regularly teach myself new skills (such as the aforementioned). I have also developed my organisation and time management skills which has allowed me to excel even more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think there is a slight lack of organisation, largely on the provider's side (LSBU), however it has not caused any dramatic changes to my apprenticeship. An example of this is not being told information about my dissertation till the last minute. Employer side is more organised but still have experienced it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my line manager who I check in with multiple times a week. They help me to prioritise tasks and guide me to be in the strongest position at the end of my apprenticeship. Overall, I have had a really positive experience with my employer from a line manager stance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I would rate this at a 6/10 due to the fact there is support and it can be quick when needed and I have never been ignored. However, some of the poor aspects of support from provider side include vague feedback and misinformation around topics that important, such as Diss and EPA process.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
In the middle on this question due to the fact that a few modules have given me greater knowledge on tasks I complete on a regular basis, such as strategic marketing channels. However, overall the focus on pure theory on a uni day can sometimes be frustrating when at the executional stage.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I get involved with other apprentices at networking events, which has allowed me to expand my contacts and make new friends that are in the same position as me. I also get involved at after work football and help to organise the football charity match every year.
I believe my office can do more to promote extra curricular activities amongst apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Unilever as it is a great place to start your career at. The size of the company means you can be accommodated for, which is really important when you want to take that extra moment to really understand something fully. It is a company full of friendly people also.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
I would suggest researching the company, understanding its employees, its purpose, its brands. Once you have done that it is about being yourself in interviews and assessment centres as people at Unilever really appreciate the true self. And their size provides a massive opportunity amongst countless functions and product categories.
