Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My primary responsibility is to respond to Pre-Qualifying Questionnaires and Selection Questionnaires. I work with the sales team to ensure that an opportunity goes through to tender. I occasionally work on bids and case studies. I liaise with Subject Matter Experts to complete responses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme, it is very interesting and there is a lot to learn which is exciting. Sometimes the training provider's webinars are a bit long and it can be hard to stay engaged. The bid team are very supportive and friendly which makes it a nice environment to learn. It is a busy team so sometimes it can be stressful but overall it is a good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my communication skills greatly by working with different individuals at all levels of the business and I have developed my organisational skills ensuring that projects stick to the bid process and are completed on time. This has greatly increased my confidence within the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Webinar dates are clear and put into our calendar at the start of the year. Assignments and reflective log are easy to find on the apprenticeship portal. However, there are some areas for improvement. Supporting documentation and assignment briefs can be in multiple separate documents so it can be hard to keep track of everything and can be bit overwhelming. The assignment dates on the end of the webinar were incorrect recently and I wasn't sent some resources by the learning coach even after I asked twice.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is lovely and supportive. She is very responsive when I ask for support. We went through the apprenticeship delivery plan and made a plan of what training I could undertake at each stage. My manager is very encouraging about me trying new things and improving my skills. She gives great feedback and arranges training sessions with other team members or runs them herself. She ensures I have the time to complete my assignments and off the job hours. If she is too busy to support then she will ask a senior team member to support me instead. I have monthly calls with Compass apprenticeship support to check my progress and see if I need anything.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider gives me adequate support. I can arrange one to one sessions at any point through a booking link. I get responses and feedback through the apprenticeship portal. I have been given an evidence matrix to highlight how I can reach the best marks. However, my emails have sometimes been missed or I haven't received information that I have asked for.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification helps me perform better in my role by giving me a structure to learn. For example, as Compass is a large company, much of the bid process involves different teams rather than one team managing the whole thing; without my qualification, I would not have learnt about the work that the other teams do and how they're work impacts the work I do. This has really helped me to understand my role a lot more and will help me a lot in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I can get involved with different diversity groups such as the LGBTQ+ group Pride in Food or Women in Food. At Christmas, there was a social event where the team did pottery and then went for pizza.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Compass group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Compass care about their employees; they are committed to developing their staff and ensuring that they are happy. I received a pay rise after being with the company for a few months which made me feel valued and appreciated. The company are dedicated to constantly improving the way they work and that makes them a great employer. They are inclusive and diverse - the majority of my team are female which I have never experienced before. Overall, it is a great place to work with kind people who care about what they do.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass group?
Be authentic and passionate, show that you are willing to learn and are dedicated to working hard. Step out of your comfort zone - I had to write a story as part of my application which I was very nervous about but I forced myself to do it and actually got the job.
