Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My home department is in bespoke interiors, I get to do a wide range of placements. There is a lot of learning, shadowing and receiving mentoring to do. I have a wide range of responsibilities depending on where I'm working on, there is a massive range of available projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy the work side of my programme, I find the university can be quite draining. I am happy though as we have a vast support network and I feel like whenever I do struggle the company is there to support me, I am glad the university is being paid for me however.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt lots of new skills and developed existing skills. I am now more confident, more organised than I was prior to starting. I felt these were issues I struggled with, but I have not lost any of my key skills such as my creativity, if anything my creativity has been enhanced to achieve even greater outcomes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is fairly well organised but I do feel it could be a bit better. I like the flexibility of the work side of what I do, but I could've benefited from some more structured support when I first joined. The university often feels like it could be organised better, but overall they are not underperforming in that regard.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer offers me a lot of support, they make a substantial effort to make sure I have access to everything I might need to ensure my positive wellbeing. There are many different avenues of support available which helps me choose depending on the level of support and confidentiality I want.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a fair amount of support, whilst I feel the lectures aren't amazing in the format they're presented in; the ability to reach out to the lecturers and request further support is a massive benefit to me. They also have wellbeing support available, though not to the same quality of my employer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think the training sometimes helps me to better perform my role, it can be quite hit or miss but sometimes the value of a module is not truly realised until a specific situation is encountered at work, or until the module is further expanded on to show how the theory is used in practice.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are loads of social opportunities at my work, within my department, within the early careers team and open social events. There are probably hundreds of opportunities every year, each one is unique and all of them have been very enjoyable to me. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxed at these social events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very good company to work for, all the people in my department say it's the best that they've worked for. The benefits, culture and pay of working here all make the stressful days completely worth it, I am looking forward to being an employee here once my apprenticeship is finished.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Work on your extra-curricular activities and skills before applying, having the grades is the minimum to get in. They want to see that you're a person outside of the grades you can achieve, it's easier said than done but be relaxed in the interview and take your time to just be honest to them. They want to get to know you as a person.
