Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
A good experience, highly dependant on your team and their approach to development.
Good working environment, people are listened too at all levels of the business in most areas. High pressure and delivery areas could improve in this respect.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Team dependant, ranging from trivial tasks to ownership of real topics that drive critical decisions in the business.
E.g. ownership of workstreams exploring next gen vehicle possibilities that will drive the competitiveness of the vehicle - communicating with key stakeholders to identify, understand, and review the defining features of new vehicle architectures to create the optimum package.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Best placement 5/5
Worst placement: 1/5
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
3/5
In the UK landscape the salary for early careers is good, outside the UK, especially for engineers, the compensation package is relatively poor compared to the most competitive international markets.
Perks and benefits seem to be being withdrawn (Invest in you, recognition funding etc.)
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
Highly team dependant, there is a lot of opportunity to find your place, however I found that some teams are far too niche to prepare their team members for a highly successful career such as purusing upper management grades
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Formal training should be utilised better, 90%+ of learning is on the job and that could still be structured in a more organised fashion.
The level of knowledge you are exposed to is excellent.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Good facilitation of support from direct manager, mentors, buddies etc. In my experience, the vast majority of people are very willing to help and support your career growth.
How is your work-life balance?
3/5
Highly team dependant, highly pressure dependant. I would like to see this improved.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
Generally very good, a detractor is the energy (battery) departments decision to enforce three days in the office as a minimum, which is a step backwards in my opinion and an unpopular decision.
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Could be better publicised

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A good company to work for all things considered, there are significant improvements that could be made, but that is the case in most companies.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
2/5
Recruitment process was not at all indicative of where I would be allocated to within the business. Other than the choice of area (propulsion), it was a surprise where I would end up.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
Understanding the JLR creator's code will be very beneficial to frame your thinking during the interview.
