Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Lots to do and lots to learn.
Biggest learning curve ever but definitely worth it.
Learnt a lot about engineering, manufacturing and programme management but more importantly m, learnt how to work within a team and with other teams. Long hours, high pressure, but that’s what creates diamonds. The placement scheme isn’t just about giving you experience but setting yourself up for a graduate role at the respective company. Daily tasks for me were to update and cascade important info to the involved stakeholders for whichever project I’m working on at the time. Alongside that, typical tasks were to fill out project documents, attend & even host meetings, review progress against targets with lead engineers and put out fires wherever possible i.e., continuous problem solving. No 2 days were the same but this was the general gist of it; being an undergraduate/graduate, you are expected of to just catch the pace of the work. After your first month or so, the ‘special treatment’ finishes which is good as you then have to become dependent and learn for yourself.
Overall great company and great work - I can’t wait to join back!
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Managed capital projects exceeding £150K as well assisted and essentially made important decisions on multi-million pound projects - very crucial to JLRms future vehicles. For instance, I wrote the presentation that we delivered to one of our contractors as the software they gave us wasn’t meeting our standards and therefore wanted our money back. In the end we were able to retrieve the £135K funds that were spent on the software license.

Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
My director always said this, ‘Attitude over aptitude.’ That’s all that really matters. If you can show your willingness to learn then thats all you really need. If you don’t have prior experience its okay, sometimes its better to be a blank canvas…
