Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am trainee in electrical design engineering. On a day to day basis I help out with various projects undertaking the production of single line diagrams for electrical cable systems.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I love being able to get the on job experience whilst also being able to further my education. I enjoy the fact that I'm able to apply some of the skills and knowledge I learn at University and apply them to my job in the workplace. However I feel I'm not given enough time in my workplace to process these skills and knowledge from university and find it hard to balance my work and university life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes I have learned various software's such as Trimble Pro Design and Auto CAD. I have learned the basic fundamentals of Electrical Design. I have further developed my communication and team work skills through working with various individuals on different projects in a team to achieve the same goals.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
I feel it is not very well structured in the sense that I only have one day during the week to try and process and stay up to date with university work where everyone else in my course is given extra time in their workplaces to help balance work and university.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
I receive very little support from my employer as I don't get the opportunity to have more time towards my university work and therefore struggle to stay up to speed with university and apply what I learn into my workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a decent amount of support from my training providers as they are very flexible and offer help as much as they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel my qualification will greatly help me further develop my skill set in the engineering world and will improve my engineering knowledge which will help improve my value to my employer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there is an Early Careers program that I am involved in which involves a weeks residential to the lake district with people from across the UK within the company.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel they are a very stable company who offer great working flexibility and are ideal for individuals who have obtained a degree and are looking to progress there engineering career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
I would advise if you are a school leaver like myself to really look into it as I feel there is no real program in place for individuals like myself however for anyone else I would highly recommend the company as they are very stable and a good company to work for in general
