Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
More recently, I was introduced to Jira, a web application used for task delegation. Getting the hang of Jira was quite straightforward, as it revolves around five core concepts. My learning experience was made even easier with the support of my manager and a coworker, who took time out of their day to teach me both the essential and more advanced aspects of the platform.
Over time, I have also developed existing skills, particularly in cloud web services, which I have found to be widely used in digital technology and a key driver of the future. E.ON provided me with access to a free Microsoft Dynamics course for a week, which significantly expanded my knowledge of cloud web services. Before this, my understanding was primarily focused on Amazon Web Services, so this experience broadened my perspective.
Additionally, I have improved my understanding of coding languages and explored new libraries both through university and at work. For example, I used Python and learned two new libraries—Scikit-Learn and NumPy—to build a fascinating machine learning model in Jupyter Notebook. Jupyter Notebook was easy to pick up, and its notebook-style interface made it ideal for developing a machine learning model.
Overall, in just six months, I have learned so much, and I couldn't ask for more from E.ON's incredible support and opportunities!
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
First, we have the Early Careers team, who regularly check in with us through frequent calls. During these calls, they always ask if they can provide support, address any concerns, and even extend their help beyond work.
Secondly, we have our mentors, who act as guides throughout our journey. My mentor has been incredibly supportive—even helping me secure my second placement! They consistently offer assistance with work and help me network with new people across the business.
Thirdly, we have our buddy, another key figure in our support system. They help us communicate with others and ensure a smooth transition into E.ON. My buddy has been a great source of support, assisting me with both university and work-related tasks. They also introduced me to older apprentices, making it easier to connect and build relationships.
Finally, we have our line manager and placement managers, who play a crucial role in supporting us. They ensure we stay on track, complete our work on time, and continue developing in the right direction.
All these aspects come together to create a strong system of support and communication, forming the foundation of a successful apprenticeship scheme. Thanks to this, I am grateful every day to be part of E.ON!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
While some aspects of the course feel more academic, the technical modules, especially those related to software engineering, cloud computing and AI, are highly relevant to my role. They enhance my problem-solving skills and allow me to apply new techniques when working on software solutions and digital projects. The combination of structured learning and hands-on experience at E.ON makes the qualification valuable in helping me develop both technical and project management skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
