Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a daily basis, i will communicate with subcontractors, value applications and assess works against this, as well as valuing any changes and referring back to the contract. We build relationships and assist with the financial management of a project, as well as exploring other areas, including admin, finance, reporting etc…
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It is very engaging and thorough, and allows theoretical Uni work to be brought to life through actually experiencing things whilst on a project. We are well supported and looked after and there is always someone to help when needed

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, i have learnt lots of people kills and skills when working within a team. I have built on my own skills too, such as improved confidence and knowledge as well as gained new industry knowledge to specific sectors, focusing mainly on M&E works
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

There is a clear and organised structure whereby learning is mapped out to ensure all topics are covered off. If there are any extra areas we feel may not be as strong, these can then be looked at through internal training, as well as additional training resources too
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We are very well supported, there is never a time when i have felt like no one has my back within the business and if i have any worries or questions someone will either try to answer it but if unable to, always be able to recommend someone else better suited
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Very well supported, i have 1 day off per week for Uni but if needed, i can always ask and likely have an extra day or two if needed to allow me to catch up with work as it is a hard balance to work and study at the same time
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like it explores new opportunities and working alongside this allows me to put learning into physical practice as we do not get the hands on experience at work, but we also do not get as much theory so it is good to know why we are doing the job too
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are always plenty of extra networking events such as days of networking and conference style events, as well as regular calls where everyone can catch up, there was a football team on my last project which was good, and hopefully one on my current one too when fully set up!

Why?
Well looked after and supported, there is also a good scheme whereby learning and physical experiences can be linked and the pay and frequent reviews that happen are also good to show that you are progressing and ensure you feel valued. Not only this but other forms of recognition add to this also
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Go for it and give it your best shot, be open and honest but make sure you do your research all about the company and the role you are applying for. Try not to do this too much however, be yourself and show yourself in the best possible light too
