Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am training to be a front-end web developer working on the business e-commerce platforms. This involves working closely with experienced software engineers to design, develop, and test web components.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme is excellent; I am surrounded by passionate and knowledgeable colleagues who are invested in my learning as much as I am. This apprenticeship has allowed me to combine my passions for tech and travel.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned to code in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Next.js, and Sass, while utilising tools such as Visual Studio Code, GitLab, Playwright, Jira, and Confluence. I regularly contribute to Scrum meetings and have even begun leading my own project.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured. We started with an induction to learn more about the business, followed by a block learning week at University. Day-to-day we have four working days per week and one study day. There are regular meetings with work and university mentors who are very supportive.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

At TUI, apprentices are supported by the Emerging Talent team, our line manager, a technical mentor, and a network of apprentices and graduates from previous years. I feel very supported by this network.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Sheffield Hallam University supplies us with module leaders, a course leader, and an apprenticeship coach who are all extremely supportive towards our studies.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am studying towards a MSc Digital Technology Solutions Specialist (Software Engineering) qualification which is teaching me exactly what I need to know for my role as a software engineer. This qualification also includes leadership development skills so that I can use this qualification to advance my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

TUI has abundant professional and social networks for all employees to get involved with. There are also regular events to participate in. I have joined the food, travel, and gaming social networks, and have attended Christmas parties, Diwali celebrations, and office events to learn about our customers and products.
