Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work within the Trading team which ensures TUI products are available to customers at the right price, at the right time, in line with current demand and competition. The focuses and day-to-day basis of my role include delivering passenger numbers in line with targets, minimising financial risk of key hotels, maximising profit and flight load factors. We take a range of actions to assist with these focuses, such as promotional activity, reviewing our pricing strategy and collaborating with international stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I fully enjoy the Commercial Apprenticeship programme. At TUI you are not just treated as 'the apprentice' but a real employee with true responsibilities. This makes you feel empowered and to always strive to do the best within your role. The scheme has allowed me to communicate with many different roles from across the business, broadening my horizons of the travel industry. The learning aspect of the apprenticeship is also enjoyable and works hand-in-hand with my day-to-day role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes. As this is my first time within a corporate role, I have developed my professionalism and how to interact within a corporate business. My role has also introduced new skills to me such as revenue management and stakeholder management. Working in a large business allows me to meet many faces from around the business and improve my collaboration and team working abilities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured, both from TUI and Linden Management. From a TUI aspect, we have regular catchups with the commercial apprenticeship committee and wider apprenticeship community. Your manager also supports your work within your apprenticeship and understands the balance of completing assignments and your day-to-day role. From a training provider aspect, regular workshops are great for improving my understanding of the course and allow me to ask questions directly to my assessor. My assessor is also available at any time such I need any assistance with the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel well supported from my employer. My manager has weekly 121s with me, not only to discuss my performance within my role but also my apprenticeship and other personal issues. Other employees within the business are also reach out to me regularly to ensure I have enough support within both my day-to-day responsibilities and apprenticeship course. Apprentices are also well connected with the Early Talent & HR team, who provide an open space for us to connect with apprentices from the wider TUI business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I am well supported by my training provider. In workshops, my assessor always ensures I understand each aspect we have been through and is always open to me asking questions. My assessor is always available via email, which makes me feel secure that should I have any additional questions they will be answered to a full extent. My provider also uploads plentiful of content to smartAssessor, which allows me to carry out my own research using provided resources.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification, Business Administrator Level 3, covers many of the qualities expected of an employee within my role. From basics such as using IT systems like Outlook/Teams to more complex studies such as stakeholder and project management, it all correlates to my day-to-day role and allows me to excel and support my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a variety of extra-curricular activities provided by TUI. One is a monthly workshop which brings different leaders from across the Commercial team and allows you to learn more about their department. Another are e-coffees which allow a small group to chat directly to a director of the UK&I board. There are also a variety of social opportunities organised, such as a 5-a-side football league, lunch running clubs, evening meals out, LGBTQ+ social groups...

Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
Yes
Why?
TUI is an amazing place to work. Each person you meet is always so friendly and takes a genuine interest in you and makes you feel supported and inspired to succeed within your role. TUI is a flexible company- without the flexibility of working hours, location, requirements, I would not have been able to work at the company. TUI also gives the opportunity to travel the world, from annual trips to being able to work from a different country. From an apprentice point-of-view, to be trusted to manage my own work and hours is also a huge factor as to why I feel supported at TUI.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
My primary tip is to simply be yourself. TUI are interested in your personality, your hobbies and want to see you as your true self. Show that you have done your research about TUI Group and the industry. It's also a bonus if you love the travel industry!
