Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I sit within the app team, and I am training up to be an iOS developer. My day to day mostly involves working through courses, learning to be an iOS dev. I am also working to develop a roadmap for one of the technical goals the iOS team have set this year. Further, i take part in team meetings each sprint. My Fridays are my 'study days' where I work towards completing University work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme and have recomended it to my friends, family and to anyone who would listen. It's amazing because you don't need a technical background, you learn a lot and there is so much support both on the work and apprenticship side of things. The university work is engaging and challenging with lecturers who are really passionate about what they do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am learning everyday, in terms of hard skills I have developed and am developing my knowledge in Swift, SwiftUI, Xcode, tools companies use such as Jira, and proceses such as Agile. Alongside this, at university I have developed my JS skills, knowlegde of React and Next.js, and database integration such as with Supabase. In terms of soft skills, at work I am developing my communication and presentation skills through meetings and occasionaly leading daily stand-ups, and through university I grew my team work and problem solving capabilities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised, in terms of the apprentenship side of things I have 3 points of contact for support, the lectures and assignments are well documented and communicates and lastly the rough timeline of the course is clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
At work, I also have structured support with weekly meetings from my line manager and the iOS lead. The rest of the team is also very friendly and have all offered their time if I need anything. My coursework is also taken into account as I have been put on a project early on that will help me complete the apprentenship as well as gain experience. Further, TUI as a whole has some great health and wellbeing benefits that support their employees.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As I mentioned, I have three points of contact with the apprenticship coach being good at keeping me on track. Lecturers are amazing, happy to answer any questions or review work. Further, I find the Universities dashboards really easy to use with a wealth on information availible on them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It is great, even though I am studying a completely different programming language and framework at univerity vs at work, the concepts are very useful and applicable to work. For example, this terms module looig at software design patterns litterally came up in a meeting at work, so having that knowlege helped me follow and contribute to the conversation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are, theres a lot of activities I would say, there is a boardgame club, a running one, there's an LGBTQ+ group, there's a group for people interested in sustainable technology. All these groups will have meetings, activoties in real life, newletters ect.
