Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as a Junior Management Consultant (JMC) varies depending on the project that I am working on. At IBM we have the opportunity to work in many different roles ranging from technical positions such as Programmer and DevOps engineer, all the way to management roles such as Scrum Master and Business Analyst. Because of this, my day-to-day most likely is very different from another JMC's day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme thanks to the flexibility and variety. Being able to pivot to new roles throughout my apprenticeship has meant that my work has stayed fresh and has continuously interested me. The programme content is interesting and challenging enough that I am constantly learning. The only negative is that some of the online learning required can be quite mundane and repetitive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned more new skills than I can count. I have had many opportunities and have gone from a student to a competent IBM employee. I now know how to set build websites, manage delivery teams, price contracts for clients and much more. All of which, I did not know how to do previously.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is incredibly well structured and has clearly had a lot of thought put into it. I always know exactly what I need to do and and I am aware of my progress throughout the course. In addition to this, I have regular meetings with my manager where we discuss the programme and I am free to discuss any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer provides me with a lot of support. This includes both my apprentice foundation manager, and my project task manager. Management are always keen to make sure I am learning new skills and ensure that I have enough time to complete my tasks without being overworked.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
IBM is my training provider and the support has been exceptional. They regularly check in with me to see how I am getting on and help with any concerns or areas that I am stuck on. They are open to feedback and regularly make changes based on what the apprentices have said to them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The training certainly does help with my role as it has provided me with the knowledge required to stand out among my colleagues. The training has also prepared me for future roles as I have developed a wide range of knowledge that applies to many areas.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of extra-curricular activities and social events that take place year-round. Whether it's sports, parties, or charity fundraisers, there is always something going on to get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
IBM provides the opportunity to learn new skills and transform into a consulting professional very quickly, all while earning a great salary. They are supportive and push you to be the best employee possible. I feel that IBM can help anyone willing to learn kick-start their career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be confident and don't be afraid of the prestigious company name. If you don't feel you have the qualifications, knowledge, or experience, don't worry! In my opinion, a willingness to learn and try new things is seen as much more important.
