Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Running of the council's temporary accommodation. Dealing with resident housing relating issues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed the classes where the coaches were giving lessons. I got to meet others within my organisation who I wouldn't necessarily have crossed paths with. These are valuable contacts for the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learn lots of new skills, one of the most valuable is time management. My role can be fast paced and reactive so managing my time has proved invaluable.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course was well structure. We studied different topics/subjects where we had assignments and research set, this helped me to thoroughly understand.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Excellent support. I was able to study on my apprenticeship one day per week. This really helped me to be able to complete modules and get assignments complete.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My coach was amazing, she was always a call/email away. She was very supportive when I felt I was struggling a little, she would always reassure and encourage me. She really knew her stuff too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I learn something different every day. I often refer back to modules in my apprenticeship when I come across a situation or a conversation that may have taken place as it helps me understand certain model a little more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I attend managers away days twice a year. This is where I can get to know other managers from other service areas and learn how they run their service area.

Why?
The support form the coaches is amazing. They really do know their stuff and are a pleasure to work with. I really enjoyed the workshop days when we all got together, the lesson used to go so quickly because it was enjoyable and interactive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ipswich Borough Council?
If the course seems hard don't give up. It's not meant to be easy and can be challenging so don't give up, you will succeed. It will be tough at times but just remember your coaches are a great support throughout your journey.
