Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role is very varied depending on the team you work in. On my team my role is different every day, I got the chance to work on new and existing projects doing practical and none practical work. As this is an NPD role there is the chance to make up products and lots of tastings too.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Once I was fully trained on all the equipment and I felt comfortable and confident in my project work, I was given as much responsibility as a full time technologist

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt a lot from my placement year. How to safely use all the equipment required as well as the most useful computer software. I have learnt how to better manage my time when working alone and as part of a team.

I was given plenty of support and lots of guidance when I needed it. I felt confident in my abilities as I knew I had the support of the team when I needed it, no question felt stupid.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
There was a sense of 'office politics' but I feel that that would be the same in most office based jobs. However, within my team the atmosphere was great, I felt respected as well as us all getting along great.

What advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods
Be confident and tell people how you feel, most people in R&D are very friendly and want to help if you are not feeling happy or supported. The role isn't as creative as you may think so go into the job expecting a lot of working to a brief instead of making up ideas on the spot and getting a chance to make them.
