Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I get allocated tasks every week to complete, this often includes checking and splitting costs related to specific packages, ensuring the estimators costs align with the budget allowed for that package , payment administration and how to ensure that s/c are payed fairly and on time for their work on a monthly basis, working the way up to manage my own package.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It's the best opportunity, you are working in an environment with the most experienced people from each sector, you work towards a degree, in which your knowledge is 2x the level it would be because you are experiencing about what you are writing and its not just theoretical knowledge .Therefore your understanding of the academia is heightened. It immediately sets you up for the working world because you are learning in one.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

yes, I have learnt more in 6 1/2 months more than I have learnt through studying a levels at school, theoretically and practically . My knowledge has expanded in all areas for example, construction related knowledge(abbreviations, processes and the industry as a whole)academics such as essay writing, equations, excel spreadsheets ,measurement estimation, cost analysis, inflation ect. And how to act in a professional environment and network.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

We have different new starter programmes which offer good levels of support for apprentices -
university and work is kept separate. I get 1 day a week of my paid working time to study for my degree. The university side operates as it normally would for a full time student but just part time ,meaning more time between assignments and less modules at one time. This allows you to focus on work and uni at the same time.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Good levels of support - from managers and team around you. There's always a big team of people who are more than willing to help and contribute to aid you to learn the most. But also get to have independence and trust that your are doing your work to the best ability.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Regarding university, module leaders and programme leaders are quick to reply and spend their time answering or helping you to the extent that they are allowed to. They offer good levels of support and prompt answers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

We learn about the industry in all of its sectors, each sector has directly related to what I have observed or experience working. I can implement what i have learnt in university to build my foundations of understanding and tailor it to my specific workplace project and processes.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are lots of opportunities to network and meet new people. We have conferences all over the UK and meet new people, for example our team have organised a water sports event . Even if its a morning tea and coffee before the conference it all depends on how you put yourself out there when given the opportunity's.

Yes
Why?
I think BB have the greatest scope of experience and knowledge and working around such people aids your future massively to be given the opportunity to be payed to study at degree level(course is funded) and get paid to work in a professional environment if the best opportunity. It sets you up for the rest of your life and not weaken your opportunity to be not chosen in the future. For example by having a degree and professional experience is better than one on its own.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Work hard do not be lazy, understand your learning style to make the most of the opportunity, be mature and again work hard
