Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

working as a site engineer on a construction site including setting out and surveying, using cad software, working with subcontractors and senior engineers whilst also doing coursework and uni studies on the side and developing with the ICE external accreditation
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the practical element of the job and certain aspects of the university studies however i do not enjoy the classroom theory side of the program and would much rather be on site with my colleague

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many skills from shadowing colleagues and throughout my university studies this has allowed me to gain confidence in my abilities and develop into the job role to feel fulfilled and happy with my positions
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

There is a distinct lack of communication between the workplace and my university which can make it complex for myself as I have found myself having to schedule with both and work around the providers independently this can increase stress and take time to complete many activities, however i believe that the structure within the workplace is simple and easily learnt
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from the workplace and am surrounded by people who care about my development and needs this allows me to have a safe place to express my feelings and suggestions for improvements. The environment is often layed-back and allows me to progress at my ow chosen rate
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

due to the nature of the block releases it is often difficult to get the needed support and i often find myself confused and demotivated by the system of work, however there are many lecturers who are willing to help with independent learner needs
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe that there is many things that i learn at uni that do not directly transfer into the workplace such as high level maths and certain modules which can be quite distant from my day to day job
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Balfour beatty offer many chances for apprentices to meet other people in the same position to network, they also host a 2 part residential trip for the early careers members, this allows people to network and have some fun!

Why?
I believe that if someone is truly interested in the opportunities in which balfour beatty offers then they should 100% take the leap of faith with the company as i have come to learn more about the company it only boosts my excitement for the role I'm in and the company I'm in
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
ensure that civil engineering is definitely the right option for you as it can be quite niche and segregated from other engineering practises and will require hard work to learn your equipment and excel
