Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I'm an apprentice asset manager. This involves overseeing the cyclical maintenance and other future planning for the PFI contracts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm happy coming to work as I feel safe and motivated. The work environment is welcoming and our team fits together very well which creates a positive atmosphere in the office. I feel comfortable in my role and look forward to finishing my apprenticeship.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have been enrolled in a data fellowship course as part of my apprenticeship which has helped me develop skills in Excel, Python and SQL despite having no prior experience with these before working here.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I'd consider my programme to be very well structured with my course modules being planned out months in advanced, accompanied by my line manager giving me new tasks to fit with the skills I've learned.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my employer with regular catch ups with my line manager to review my progress. The company has also supported me by enrolling me in an early careers course which focuses on networking with other apprentices and improving our confidence and leadership skills.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider ensures I use 20% of my work week towards the course where I can complete new or revisit module work. 1:1 coaching and meetings with your cohort coach are available whenever. I've also attended additional sessions to broaden my skills beyond the scope of my course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My course has allowed me to perform significantly better as it's provided much needed skills for me to be competent in programmes like Excel, SQL and Python which I use regularly in my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As part of the Early careers programme you can go to the Lake District on a 4-day residential and take on activities such as Ghyll scrambling, canoeing and others. There is also an employee forum that takes place once a year where people from different contracts get together to network.

Why?
I'd recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend because I've felt myself become more confident since joining, whilst also expanding my skillset and working well with others in a professional environment. It has been a great experience overall and I look forward to working here for the rest of my apprenticeship and hopefully beyond that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
I would advise anyone applying to Balfour Beatty to just be themselves. Everyone I have spoken to since joining has been very welcoming and there's no need to be nervous as everyone was new here at some point!
