Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I process monthly payroll paperwork, such as contract changes, parental leave and resignation forms. I also answer employee queries over the phone and through email. I also pay on call and call out claims. I will also look at claims, salary deductions and advance payment requests.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme, as it encourages me to push myself and the workload is manageable. It encourages me to develop knowledge and skills that will improve my abilities in the workplace. I also enjoy completing the assignments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned how to use Microsoft Excel and our payroll software. I have also gained confidence in taking phone calls. Furthermore, I have gained more knowledge about statutory deductions for tax and National Insurance. This apprenticeship has developed my maths skills as well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is very well organised, as I always know when my sessions are months in advance. There is always time at the end to ask questions and look at the tasks with the tutor, which is useful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have monthly department meetings, and I also have a monthly 1:1 with my manager. My team meets weekly to discuss our workload. I can always ask a colleague if I do not know how to do something.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutor keeps me updated on my progress and has arranged 1:1s to give me time to discuss tasks, or how I am working towards the end point assessments. She is always quick to mark my work and answer emails.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me to understand the different types of statutory payments and deductions better. It has also given me lots of knowledge around pension, which I would not have gotten from the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, we had a Christmas party. Our organisation has also held staff parties throughout the year. There are also other events that staff can attend, such as memorials and walks.
