Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
What I like about my job is that no week is the same. My role particularly has a half and half dynamic which makes it more interesting. One day I could be on the factory floor for packaging trials, to the next day looking at design concepts for different projects.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the apprenticeship scheme provided by both my employer and training provider. My role involves a variation of tasks which I like as it keeps the role more interesting. My university work helps me develop at work and visa versa.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The most positive part of my apprenticeship has been the different types of exposure I’ve had to developing my skill set. Everyday is a new learning experience where I feel like I am constantly expanding my knowledge. For example, it can range from presenting briefs to external suppliers, to developing prototypes using the 3D printer or the thermoformer. I have been able to develop my soft skills through internal networking workshops, speaking to suppliers allows me to also make those connections externally.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I like the way my university is structured with block sessions - I think this provides a good university -> work life balance. It allows me not to get too overwhelmed with work/uni work which is an important factor.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
They have been supportive with any queries that I’ve asked them and are keen support me with my personal development goals, both within the company and for university. They have helped push me towards different learning opportunities and encourage me to step outside of my comfort zone which I really appreciate.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We are given a lot of support from the university. Being treated alike to a normal university student means we have access to most things. The main limitation would be for those who live further from the university, some resources can be more limited such as using the library.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the modules from my course compliments what I do at work well as it provides further context. The course covers a variation of elements that are necessary to know for my role. The information at university fits hand in hand with what I do at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
On a social level there is nothing much that is organised through work, however regarding to professional networking the nature of my role means I have more exposure to external networking. But I'm m unsure on how much exposure other apprentices within the business get.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes
Why?
Premier Foods is a really great company to work in general. I think this is evident as alot of people either come back after leaving, return after student placements, dedicate their whole work career to the business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
If it's a role that sounds interesting to you definitely go for it! My experience when applying to Premier was really positive throughout the application process.
