Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a mechanical fitter I spent time shadowing other fitters learning the basics on how to build valves and fault find when they didn't fit together first time. I also spent time in other departments to get experience across the whole business including factory testing, inspection, completion and production engineering.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I had a good time as I started in a big year of apprentices so there were around 20 of us in my year of the apprenticeship which made it good fun. We had some issues where we weren't being trained on the things we thought we should be and some changes were made when this was brought to senior management.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I learnt a lot of new skills such as CAD design which I picked up when working in the production engineering department. I also learnt how to communicate with other departments and run projects within the business. I improved my skills as a mechanical engineer with lots of experience in assembly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship was fairly structured towards the end with development plans in place for each apprentice and a rota to switch us between departments so we didn't stay in one place not learning. College was on day release every week and very organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I received support to complete my apprenticeship and to learn new things about the job.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
TDR was a very good training provider and the teachers were able to support in each lesson to make sure I got the grade I wanted.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Some of the training was very useful to the job role and I picked up a lot which helped at work but there is also a lot of stuff they need to teach you which may not apply to the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
As an apprentice you get to go to the lake district for a week with the whole year of apprentices where you do lots of activities and team building exercises. This was great fun. We also went on nights out and there were 5 a side teams too.
