Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role day to day sees me manage payments to sub-contractors, having meetings with both the sub-contractors and the client, writing forecasts and composing invoices. I also take part in evalting the work that has been done by sub-contractors to ensure they are paid the right amount. This takes the form of me walking around site, measuring sketches ect.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Very much so, from always having work todo, ensuring I have plenty of opportunity to work and meet new people on new schemes as well as having really fun training opportunities such as at the Brathay Trust

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

This apprenticeship has taught me plenty of skills regarding how to be a good QS such as cost managing, time management, making data clear and understandable. It has also taught me a lot regarding personal skills like presenting or speaking to a wide group

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Plenty of training at the right intervals, gives me time to learn a lot from a scheme before moving me on to a new scheme allowing me to continuously develop my skills

As much as I want when I need it, I always have people to reach out to to ask for support in my day to day role or if I have a question about something more general.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As much as I feel I need, my LM have been happy to sit in during meetings with my uni if needed, they ensure I have ample resources, allow me to speak to experts when needed

Plenty of social events with the team, options to meet the wider early careers team in a week long trip to the Brathay Trust.

Helped me to learn about the role, treated as an equal, given tasks and responsibility, plenty of training, never felt out of my depth or like I didn't have any help
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Be yourself, it's a very chill interview and they understand you are joining as an Early Career so don't expect you to know everything. Ensure you know about the projects currently being worked on and why you would be interested in working on them. Talk about 5% Club.
