Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My current role in the company consists of monitoring multiple accounts and then processing fees that they send across such as premiums, brokerages, profit commissions etc. I also have to ensure these have been paid. I have to have a sufficient knowledge of a range of services such as OpenTwins, XChanging etc in order to answer any queries I may receive.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme when I am constantly busy and working as I like having something to do and having my mind focused on a task. However when the accounts are quite and i'm up to date with everything I enjoy it less however this is only a small minority of the time. I also am not a massive fan of reading the book however I understand this is something I have to do in order to progress further.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
One main skill I have learnt is being able to multitask. This is pivotal as it allows me to prioritise different tasks depending on importance and allows me to completely focus on the more important tasks that have closer deadlines. I have also developed my communication skills - whether this be verbal or written - I developed this when starting as I need regular assistance so I was always asking for help to further understand my work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme I am enrolled in is well organised as I have a manager who I speak to regularly and who keeps up to date with my work. Also, I have fairly regular catch ups with my Aptem coach where we set goals in order to keep me on track of the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive plenty of support and assistance from my employer. This normally comes in the form of catch ups or revision sessions. Catch ups give me the opportunity to tell him where i'm up to with my work and if i require any further assistance and revision sessions where he will test my knowledge from the book in order to prepare me for my exams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The majority of the support I receive is from my employee (revision sessions). However, we do have a day of exam prep which is led by someone at Davies which is very helpful. There is also practice tests on the CII website which allows us to fully prepare for our qualifications
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There is plenty of learning courses on their website which allow me to understand my role as well as develop my knowledge even further. Also, there is also learning courses that allow me to develop transferable skills in the work place such as communication, prioritising and customer service as well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is multiple social activites a year which allows us create good working relationships whether that is between employees in my team or elsewhere in other teams. There is also some good profressional networking events that we, as an apprenticeship group, have attended which allow us to network even further and understand different parts of insurance which give us a wider range of knowledge on the industry.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Guy Carpenter to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Guy Carpenter is an excellent company as well as having a well supported apprenticeship programme. You are given the chance to work in a helpful team with like minded professionals. The company also gives you sufficient time to revise and prepare for exams as well as providing the correct facilities and training to ensure you are progressing in your role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Guy Carpenter?
An importamt piece of advice is to always be yourself and dont try and say you know more than you do or try to copy someone else when you are not able to. The company is excellent at giving the required help and training to people and you will not be the only one who struggles at that particular topic or skill etc.
