Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I was able to gain a deeper and clearer insight into the functions of the myriad divisions within an investment bank. I networked with a variety of analysts, associates and even a 1 to 1 session with a senior banker (MD in Leveraged Finance) and heard his insights about the current markets, as well as the skills needed to succeed in this competitive industry.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was incredibly insightful. Not only did it open my eyes to work into divisions I did not previously consider like Asset Management and Credit Risk. However, the analysts who answered our questions and gave us an insight into their daily lives have helped me to understand more about the business and the potential roles for graduates to enter.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, before the scheme, I often doubted myself and lacked the confidence to speak up and ask questions about things I was not familiar with but having spoken to members of the firm, I developed stronger communication skills and some technical knowledge of financial markets and financial statements. I also developed my analytical and problem-solving skills during games and case study sessions.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was extremely inclusive and diverse. One thing that really appealed to me and has stuck to me is the fact that senior bankers are extremely integrated with more junior bankers and are very open to helping and advising new employees at the company who are yet to familiarise themselves with certain things.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I didn't expect to emerge from the insight programme with so much more knowledge than before. Not only did I gain a greater insight into the industry, but I also learnt more about the roles and had fun challenging myself during the case studies. It was also a fantastic opportunity to network with other bright students and collaborate with them in a team.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
Be confident and be natural; the interviewers at J.P Morgan and the recruiters at H.R are unlikely to hire you or give you a position if you show a personality that you think they want rather than yourself. Furthermore, I would advise them to know as much about the company as possible as there is nothing better than knowing this is a right company for you.
