Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Role: People Manager. The role involves restaurant visits to offer support in relation to training, HR matters, visits such as RGRV, conduct People audits, RTW checks, help with disciplinary cases and grievances, conduct listening sessions with employees.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
Sadly I didn’t enjoy it as much. It is very difficult to complete an apprenticeship and focus on the company’s needs at the same time. I understand there should be a 20% off the job on a weekly basis, but realistically speaking this may not be possible sometimes, particularly in the situation I was in in 2022.
Also, I feel that some of the apprenticeship activities are really unnecessary, they only create work and are not completed with with the purpose of learning but just ticking a box.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, particularly through disciplinary and grievances cases. These have enhanced my knowledge and helped me feel more confident.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme itself - HR level 5 - is well organised, but in this particular experience I found that AVADO didn’t deliver a great service. We got changed tutor so many times, we didn’t know to ask or reach out to. The support was not enough, which increased the amount of effort and time we had to dedicate to complete de assessments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
In 2022 not much, but the organisation I was part of was undergoing through so many changes and my role had so many responsibilities, that in all honesty it was not possible to do anything else. Gladly I could complete the units and assessments on time and pass them. When we were TUPEd to McOpCo (Nov 2022), the workload decreased to a reasonable amount and I got the time to complete my apprenticeship on a weekly basis.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
It varied depending who our tutor was. As mentioned before we got changed tutors so many times and at some point, towards the end, I didn’t even know if we had a tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that the content of each unit was enriching and challenging. Challenging in the sense that would push you to investigate, dig deeper and research. The scenarios of each assessment helped visualise the context of the unit and what would that look in the real world; which ultimately helped performing my role and make informed decisions in different cases.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes there are, particularly at McOpCo. Not so much on my previous organisation.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel that McDonald’s is a great place to work, with a great range of benefits and opportunities to grow as a professional. Additionally, diversity, inclusion and equality are truly core values at McDonald’s and everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
McDonald’s is a fast paced job - don’t panic the first days/weeks. It will be fun, and once you become part of the team, everything will be better and smoother.
Don’t waste your time and make the most out of this experience. I never imagined when I joined that I would still be working at McDonald’s after 9 years, but the opportunities were there and I took them and I couldn’t be happier of where I am today, and of all the support I have received from the organisation.
