Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a crew member at McDonald’s. This includes kitchen work and customer service. The apprenticeship has encouraged me to shadow my shift managers and inquire about different roles within the workplace. I have more knowledge than all crew members and I am expected to relay that to others.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy this programme. It’s challenging and pushes me to do my best. I also have the opportunity to continue working with my close friends and employees at McDonald’s whilst learning how to excel in my role. I am very glad I got this opportunity and will use it wisely.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained a lot of new knowledge. I’ve developed my people skills and leader skills. I have learnt many new tasks such as cleaning out the coffee machines and filter boxes. I have become a lot closer with managerial staff meaning I have a lot of inside knowledge on how the store is run.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is extremely well structured. I use Aptem and with the help of Office 365 all my details are in one file. It’s easy to access my documents and complete my work, as well as communicating with my coach and well-being instructor. Overall, it is an extremely well structured apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I could ask for. I am able to contact someone 24/7. I’ve been allowed extra hours to get work done, access to tablets and computers. There is also a mental health wellbeing help line that I haven’t had to use yet however if and when I get the chance to I’m sure it’ll be beneficial.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
It is mainly independent learning but if I ask for support i will get it instantly. I haven’t had to rely on other people to get my work done but if I needed a hand, support would not be lack-lustre. My training providers have been a big help so far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has given me motivation to impress and complete the qualification, helping me perform by bettering my previous attitude. My extended knowledge due to this apprenticeship has also made me perform better. Having new starters asking me questions I wouldn’t have know the answer to a few months ago.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, recently I participated in a charity 5 a side football event courtesy of McDonald’s. It was great for team bonding and I got a good insight on how my higher-ups conduct themselves outside of work. Every time it’s someone’s birthday the majority of the store get together for a few drinks which is a nice social occasion.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very good apprenticeship wage, flexible hours, credible qualifications that can take you very far. Friendly work environment as well as constant support when you need it. McDonalds is a very well structured company and also extremely credible to future employers with experience from McDonald’s, it somewhat acts as a golden ticket to other hospitality industries.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, everyone is there to help. Be polite to all coworkers and customers. Learn the British values and McDonald’s motto and vision. Apply all that you learn through e learning into your role. Don’t bring personal issues into the workplace, seek help.
