Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently a shift manager. This entails me organising and running a shift . I have to lead a team of 30-40 people on a daily basis making sure they are motivated and working towards the company’s goals. I also have to keep track of inventory, food quality and use accounting software.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I definitely enjoy my programme. It has been amazing so far from the people I have met that have been in the same industry to the contacts at the university as well supporting mentors within the business. It had been great for networking as well as obviously learning business on a higher level.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, leadership skills have definitely been one that in developed as leading such a varied aged team from teenagers to adults 30 plus, has meant that I have needed to develop different ways to motivate and lead people as each age category has different motivating factors. As well as this I have definitely picked up higher accounting skills as using different software, bank deposits and using different spreadsheets.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is definitely organised great and structured great. From the time table of going up to university to making sure all aspects such as academic units are presented well, online work is amazing and even such as making sure hotels are booked whilst up there has made the whole programme successful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I do receive a lot of support from my employer. From in restaurant mentor to HR manager mentors making sure that everything is going well every step of the way anf giving me advice as well as leading me in the right direction. I would say off the job training could be improved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Great amount of support is provided from my university as always been open for conversations on emails, WhatsApp and even video calls if we have any questions. Feedback is always given so that we can improve on our work. This has kept us pushing forward to work towards that en point assessments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
This has definitely helped to perform better in my current role. Learning business in many aspects such as customer base to leaderships methods has meant that when I come back from university and competed a unit I can apply that practically to my job role and works hand in hand.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I currently am not involved in extracurricular activities as being up at university for 3-4 weeks out the year I am not able to take part in these as based many hours away from university campus. But have attended different networking events whilst down there to make sure always kept in the loop.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great stepping stone for not only different roles within the company but great skills are gained that are recognised in different businesses. It is flexible working hours for any needs such as kids. If offers good pay, benefits such as free meal allowance while on shift is good.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
Always be truthful in your CV, interview and onboarding as it is not useful for both you and an employer to hire and be in a job that you are not suited for or not Interested in. Always showcase motivation and willingness to learn and develop and definitely will go far.
