Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am responsible for dealing with the daily BACS. These are the payments that are coming into the University's bank account daily. I have to therefore allocate them to the right invoice number or the right general ledger coding. I have to usually email other departments about these payments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme as I move departments every six months so I am able to see all of the different parts of Finance. If I am therefore to stay on at the University, I have an idea of where I would like to go by having this experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my usage of Excel spreadsheets and I have learned more tips and tricks to find things easier. I have developed my email etiquette skills by emailing people daily asking about payments that we have received. I have developed my confidence by phoning other companies asking about payments we have received.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured as I get told when I will be moving onto the next department. It is good that they choose where I go for my first year of my apprenticeship but the other 2 years, I get to choose where I want to go next.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have a lot of support from my employer. I have the apprenticeships team, colleagues, other apprentices, buddies, mentors and line managers that I know I can speak to about anything and any worries or concerns I may have. This is one of the best employers for the amount of support there is available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. I have my tutor that I can always speak to in class or Teams message outside of class if I am struggling with anything that we are learning. I also have regular meetings with the apprenticeship lead who I know I can talk too also.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has helped me in my confidence by being with people that I did not know before as well as helping me with computer skills such as using Excel spreadsheets. It has helped me to understand more what I am doing and understanding why it is important to do things that way etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have an apprentice network where apprentices all across the University have a chance to meet up with people who could be doing a similar or different apprenticeship to them. We also have whole department networking events which I enjoy as it is nice to spend time with colleagues outside of work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The University is a great place to work and I feel proud to be an employee here. The apprenticeships that the University offers are so good that I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is thinking about doing an apprenticeship. The support that the University has an offer is amazing!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
Include things that will make you stand out to other candidates. Make sure you apply for something that you know you will enjoy and not just for the sake of it. It may seem quite daunting working for the University but all of the employees are so friendly and helpful!
