Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My daily responsibilities consist of working with internal colleagues on Bid projects. Which has tasks, such as, creating layouts using customer branding and also designing bespoke graphics using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. I also have internal projects as well as Bids, for example, updating our internal SharePoint website with new content.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have really enjoyed my time on the Creative Digital Design Degree Apprenticeship so far, the balance of professional work and my degree work is great. I have a dedicated day each week for my degree study, which consists of workshops and design tutorials from lecturers at Newcastle College Group.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since starting the Creative Digital Design Degree Apprenticeship, I have learnt a lot of new design skills, as well as, professional skills. For example, I have been able to present my ideas to groups of internal colleagues at team meetings. I have been able to refine my design knowledge within a more corporate setting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
This Creative Digital Design Degree Apprenticeship is very new and I was part of the first year of it's launch. The first year did seem as if the structure and organisation needed tweaking but I am happy to say that my second year has been clearly structured and organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has been very supportive throughout my degree apprenticeship so far. I am able to go through any projects or degree content that I am working on with my line manager. From the very start I have had shadow sessions with my line manager which has helped massively to learn how to produce my best work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have received great support from my tutors for my degree side of the apprenticeship. Every Friday during term time I have tutorials, workshops and even 1 to 1's with my tutor to get feedback on projects. I have calls with my line manager and training provider every 8 weeks to discuss my progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The skills learnt from my degree have been a great help to not only carry out my job more efficiently and to a higher quality but also has allowed me to become an innovator for my team at work to suggest new ideas to try and show what is possible with new software.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are opportunities at DHL to go to lots of professional networking events, such as, apprentice days, conferences and also team days out for sustainability challenges and volunteering. My smaller team do a monthly in person meeting to carry out a session on a chosen topic and also give general updates.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
DHL are very carrying and inclusive. The teams I have worked for and in have all been like a community. There are lots of internal and external training opportunities that DHL offer to employees, which can boost your professional skills and help you take your career to the next level.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
My advice for applying to DHL for a job or apprenticeship, would be to show a willingness to learn and be someone who wants to challenge themselves. Also, being an easy to get along with character will help fit in with the community feel we have at DHL Supply Chain.
