Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a degree apprentice involves a mix of learning on the job and studying alongside it. Day to day, I support my team with operational tasks, projects, and admin while also getting involved in problem-solving and improving processes in the workplace. I work closely with different people across the business, which has helped me understand how everything fits together. I also have dedicated time for university work, so I can apply what I’m learning straight into real-life situations at work, which is a system that works brilliantly for me.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme. It’s a great way to gain experience, earn money, and work towards a degree at the same time. The support from my manager and the DHL team has been really good, especially when balancing work and studying. I’ve learned a lot already and feel like I’m building useful skills and confidence for my future career. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone considering a degree apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve definitely developed a lot of new skills since starting the programme. I’ve improved my communication and teamwork skills by working with different people across the business, and I’ve become more confident speaking up and asking questions. I’ve also developed practical workplace skills like time management, organisation, and problem‑solving, especially when balancing work with university deadlines. The experience has helped me grow both professionally and personally, and I feel much more confident in a working environment compared to when I first started.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is generally well organised and structured, which helps a lot when balancing work and university. Key deadlines and expectations are made clear, and there is a good balance between on-the-job learning and academic study. At times it can feel busy, but overall the structure helps keep everything manageable and on track.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. My manager and team are very supportive and understanding, especially around university commitments and deadlines. There is always guidance available when needed, which has made a big difference to my confidence and development in the role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider offers good support throughout the programme. Tutors are approachable and provide clear guidance on coursework and assessments, with helpful resources available. While it can be challenging at times, support is always there when needed, which helps keep everything on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification links really well to my role and helps me understand the wider business and industry. A lot of what I learn can be applied directly to my day-to-day work, which has helped improve my confidence and performance. It feels relevant and useful rather than just theoretical.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are various opportunities to get involved outside of day-to-day work, such as social activities, networking events, and professional development opportunities. These are a great way to meet new people and gain extra experience alongside the apprenticeship.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend DHL because it offers a really strong degree apprenticeship programme with lots of support and development opportunities. You gain real hands-on work experience while studying towards a qualification, which helps build confidence and practical skills. The workplace environment is supportive, and there are clear opportunities to learn, progress, and get involved across the business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
Be yourself during the application process and show a willingness to learn. You don’t need to know everything already - having a positive attitude, being open to new experiences, and showing motivation goes a long way. Good time management is also really important, as balancing work and study can be challenging but very rewarding if you stay organised.
