Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is to support the occupational therapists and the rest of the team on and inpatient rehab ward for over 65’s. I do assessments, run groups, stock orders, calibrate equipment and referrals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I love my programme so far, it’s hard work and very full on content, but feel very lucky for the opportunity and I can’t wait to be a qualified OT.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have started to put my learning into practice where I can. I’m fortunate enough to work and do this degree, it helps with the learning and with my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think it’s hard to do online learning as it is, but they do their very best to support us and they give lots of helps and time on assignments. I think it’s well structured and I have not had any issues so far.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very supportive. I have a great team around me so I am very lucky as they are always very encouraging towards me!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
They give us plenty of time, lots of support and ideas and ways to go about things. They support as best they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think learning the theories and why we do what we do helps me to understand my role better and I’ve had a few light bulb moments!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of events. I have taken part in a couple, it’s hard to fit them all in at times.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
So far Solent has shown me nothing but support and want to help progress the people they have in their trust. They have worked hard to build the apprenticeship programme which has grown so much over the years and I have nothing but good things to say.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
To be honest about what they want to achieve and do in the future.
