Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role can involve anything from cost-plan true ups to helping contractors with installations on site. Being apart of the EICA team we focus on the installation of electrical equipment which can range from something as big as an MCC and as small as a chlorine analyser with the primary end-goal of providing clean drinking water to all the Severn Trent customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

This programme has been very enjoyable so far and the balance between work and university is very good. For me being a sociable person I enjoy being able to speak to new people every day and I am excited to build relationships and expand my network even further in future.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many new skills and also improved on skills that I already have. I work on building my skills every day, a skill that has particularly improved is my attention to detail this is because my job involves a lot of reviews and so by doing these I have naturally became more aware and been able to analyse things more carefully.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well organised and there is a good communication between university and work. I get a good amount of time to complete my university work to the standard expected. I have also been given various experiences here at work that were aimed at improving my skillset and expanding my knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support whether it be by giving me enough time to work towards my degree or my fellow employees giving up there time to help me with difficult concepts. All in all the support I have received has been exactly what I expected and I hope that this will continue throughout my time here.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has a realisation that our job and university work must go hand in hand to be successful; with this in mind they are careful that the work they set us is useful and not too long winded. We have had issues with this a couple times, however an agreement was shortly reached after and there was clear improvement post-chat.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I can already see my degree giving me a more rounded set of skills. By using programmes such as Fusion 360 and Matlab I am able to support people at work that otherwise I would have struggled to even input on. They are also very conscious that the gaining of knowledge at university is equally important as gaining the professional skills that translate directly into the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a few activities that you can get involved in and there are different events that I have learnt I can be apart of. However in all honesty with me already participating in extra-curricular activities at home and being generally busy this is not something that I particularly value anyways.

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They offer an inviting place to work with plenty of benefits. These include: The share scheme, Vehicle scheme and a good pension for the future. To go with this in my experience I have received a lot of support and I have been given all the tools to grant me a good start to my career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
Take opportunities, because you never know if these opportunities will come about again. I would also say to take steps to expand your comfort zone by doing things that at first seem uncomfortable but with practice and repetition hopefully it will become general practice. By doing these things I believe you are giving yourself the best possible opportunity to succeed.
