Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
day to day basis would involve going out with an assigned mentor and learning about all of the different aspects of the job role, this usually involves checking graphs, pushing faulty loggers, walking the streets finding leaks and booking in leaks. due to the variety of things to do, the day goes by very quick
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme at the moment. the days are always broken up with different things which helps to day to not drag on. i also go up to college for a few nights a month where i am able to socialise with other apprentices my age which is good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
yes, i have learnt new skills and also developed my understanding on other skills. for example, i now understand how to read graphs that now help me to have a better understanding of leakage in a DMA. a lot of maths is also involved when checking graphs and quantifying leaks

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
the apprenticeship is structured very well. things are explained very well to a good extent until i fully understand it. regular progress meetings with managers also helps me to understand what i am doing well and what i need to work on. college is also structured well, in a way that is doesnt feel like im back at school
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
i receive a lot of help from my employer, i have numerous people i feel comfortable to talk to if ii ever need help, whether this is different wnt's, my manager, my mentor, or other apprentices. i can do this face to face, over the phone or via email
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
i receive a lot of help. i recently had an issue where i didn't receive my work assignments for the course, the training provider amended this as soon as they found out. since then, i have had a number of emails of encouragement as well as having phone calls about support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
my qualifications will 100% help me perform better in the full time role. the apprenticeship is for an assistant WNT, however with all the training i get both on the field and at college i will be able to complete the course and then become a WNT using the qualification and experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes, there is. since beginning in August i have been invited to two different social activities. one being bowling for all apprentices and past apprentices, as well as a laser tag activity. these are sent to people all over the country to attend which makes it a good activity for networking

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i would definitely recommend Severn Trent to a friend as it has helped me progress into a career that i want. prior to starting i had been working in warehouses for 3 years, working unsociable hours and weekends. i now work monday-friday 7am-3:30 which is much better for me
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
when applying i had to make a presentation and present it to my line manager (i didnt know it was my manager at the time). my advise would be to take time with this. i would also ensure you take an interst in the work you are doing as it allows you to learn more quickly.
