Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves lots of testing of the raw water and final water we have on site, I also test chemical strengths and ensure the site standards are kept by keeping the site clean and ensuring it is running properly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far i have loved it, for a week every month i go to the Severn Trent Academy in Coventry to develop my knowledge about my job and what it entails. I find this useful as it they also teach us life skills that we would use outside of work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed fault finding techniques which allows me to quickly identify an issue with an asset that we have on site. An example of this could be a pump vibrating too much or making a funny noise when in operation.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I feel as though it has a very solid structure, a good balance between working on site and at the academy. We are also given enough assignment work to keep us busy.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot of support is given to the apprentices especially by managers, mentors and our trainer assessors. The transition between school and work was very fluid and i felt that i had no issues due to the support that i was given.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our trainer assessor comes out to site if we ask him for help on our assignments, or even if he believes we are falling behind. This is helpful because we may not know where we are meant to be in terms of quality of work so this helps us push ourselves to do better.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel as though it gives us the extra context as to why we are doing stuff on site, and how the different processes affect the quality of the water we are sending out for distribution. It also means that when we get the job at the end of our apprenticeship, we are already fully trained and have extra bits of knowledge to give out to our team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No, there are no sporting events. However they do apprentice meet ups where they hold events for all apprentices and graduates. For example in the past there has been bowling events and laser tag events meaning all the apprentices get to meet each other.

Why?
Severn Trent is a very reliable employer who provide great benefits and security in your job role which can set you up for life. There is something called the share-save too which means you can make a profit off of the company's' shares by buoying them for a reduced price.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
Show how willing you are to learn, as long as you are willing to learn and put the effort in, there is no reason as to why you wont get accepted into your chosen role. Be respectful to others when going through your application process and make friends with applicants.
