Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Working as a DevOps engineer in the cloud. Work in 2 week sprints to create solutions for customers using AWS services. Every Friday I work on my apprenticeship work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy the programme. It is run extremely efficiently, my team are great teachers which has made learning new concepts fun and easier to grasp. I am regularly checked up on to make sure I am progressing and if I am having any problems or concerns.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learnt loads of new skills. Currently working in AWS for the first time which is a leading cloud provider. Work daily using Python to create scripts for the back-end and Typescript for Front-end systems. Each week also learning the Agile way of working in sprints etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Super well organised, before starting I had an pre-induction day to TUI. Then when I first joined I had an Induction week. Then met with my apprenticeship provider which outlined exactly what I needed to do to do well in the Apprenticeship. Had regular catch up meetings also.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My team are the backbone to my whole education so far in the apprenticeship. We have a structured learning path which aligns nicely with my KSBs in the apprenticeship. Any new project we do is also aligned with my apprenticeship. Also receive tons of support from apprenticeship team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular virtual classes each month which is part of my learning path for my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The subjects that I have taken so far have definitely helped me perform better at my role because they are relevant to it. Everything has improved my skills which has made me able to perform my role better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have some social events during town halls and we have SMILE networks for social activities which can be organised through our intranet page.

Really good company with plenty of opportunities to expand your skill set and learn. Everyone who works here is like-minded which means work environment is great. Loads of company benefits including holiday deals.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
Make sure that you are passionate about the job role you are applying for and what you will do in that job. Make sure you are friendly and approachable. Always look for multiple solutions and show how you can collaborate in a team.
