Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a reinforcement engineer who's role is to design steel reinforcement for concrete structures varying in in-situ and precast projects. I design the reinforcement in a 3D model space, then creating corresponding 2D drawings for guys on site and in the precast factory to use.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme (although it is very long having started from college at level 3 apprenticeship right the way through to a degree apprenticeship). I've met lots of people from different backgrounds and areas around the UK who's taken different apprenticeship routes
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt great communication and presentation skills whilst being here which I struggled with before I started. I've also further developed my IT skills with excel, word and outlook emails

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Its very well organised, with accommodation, key dates and well structured briefs prepared to help me understand what they expect of me, and what is to be expected of my employer and the training provider
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive daily support from my line manager and other senior members when I struggle with some tasks, and they are always there to listen to your problems should you have any
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive support to enable me to complete any tasks relating to university work, through study days provided by my employer and set days organised with my line manager when I need them
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

This gives me a better understanding of all the theory behind my day-to-day role, learning about civil engineering as a whole, and not just concrete structures but also all engineering sectors, allowing me to apply my knowledge on why I would design concrete reinforcement in such a way.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are some networking events which employees have organised ourselves such as football, golf days and event nights relating to my whole team, as well as Laing O'Rourke wide Christmas parties!

Its a great place to work who's aim is to get the best out of you. They provide all the training you need, they listen to you about work and social aspects of your life and try to put your needs first.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Laing O'Rourke?
There are a lot of roles on offer, which gives so many people different routes into engineering. This can be site or office based, with good rates of pay and training provided for you to succeed.
