Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an Apprentice Finance Assistant within the purchasing side of finance. I raise purchase orders, pay invoices, check statements from suppliers. I also help within the general ledger this involves sending invoices and doing journals
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot. There’s never a day where I don’t want to go to work as I’m excited to carry on learning new things and expanding my knowledge whether that be learning at college or learning new processes and skills within the workplace to help me advance further
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed skills within using IT systems. Improved my people skills having to interact with many different people. As well as learning new processes and how finance works
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well organised I have meetings with my line manager and training provider regularly to ensure that everything is on track and to assess what the next steps are in terms of setting targets myself to complete in areas I feel aren’t going so well. As well as having targets from my manager to ensure that I’m continuing to learn further and can ensure I complete all the necessary training hours
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer I have meetings with my line manager every other week to see what they can do to help me with completing my apprenticeship. But the support isn’t just from my manager but my team as well who will always answer any questions I might have. The support extends further to the apprenticeship team also who will always be there if there are any issues with my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support from my training provider. This is through the meetings I have regularly with apprenticeship coordinator from the college and my line manager who always begins the meetings firstly with checking my welfare. As well as receiving support from my tutor who I can always contact even when not at college and they will help with my learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

College means that I’m learning the theory. Therefore I’m able to apply the correct terminology when performing tasks within my role. My qualification also means that I can understand why some things I do at work are done. So overall college just helps to improve my understanding of the processes I complete at work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am apart of the apprenticeship network. This means that I am able to see and interact with other apprentices. We usually meet once a month and do various activities. Examples are crazy golf, escape rooms or just going out for a meal. This is a nice opportunity to socialise with people who you don’t see on a day to day. There are also activities within my department such as a running group on a Thursday lunchtime.

Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a great place to work due to its friendly environment. As well as having many opportunities within the university. Apprentices for the uni are paid well. It’s also nice as there is a large group of apprentices so there’s lot’s of people who you can speak to who are completing a similar process to you. The apprentice buddy scheme the university do is great as it means they’re there for any questions you might have.

Be confident and do your research when going through the interview process
