Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in acute medicine day assessment, I carry out initial assessment including observations and bloods prior to taking a history and carrying out any required examination. Before requesting any further tests, e.g. x-ray, CT scan. This then allows me to make a diagnosis and plan for treatment, if required. Or rule out ?diagnosis and discharge my patients safely. I work within a team of ACPs and doctors. We each have link roles within the team to ensure patient safety and project progress to benfit the service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed my leadership programme due to the variety of ways in teaching and learning. Which meant I could learn at my own pace and I could apply what I had learnt in my team and how what I had learnt could be put into action and see the benefits now and in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Since working in acute medicine I have put into practice old skills I have not needed to use in years, inlcluding blood transfusions and IV medication adminisration. I have learnt to carry out Ascitic Drains independently and request x-ray's, USS and CT scans safely, when reuired. My knowledge in acute medicine is expanding daily whilst I put my leadership skills into practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I had a good induction online with my tutor, the programme was set out for the year. The final gateway was hinted to but details not looked at again until the end so kind of forgot it was coming. I was supported my my tutor with monthly meetings and knew she was always reachable. The tasks were allocated at regular intervals which made it manageable.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager supported me applying for the course and was their if I needed anything throughout the course. Particularly when it came to running my project, she supported my idea and allowed me the time and resources I needed to run it. My team supported me throughout by trialing all that I had learnt willingly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My tutor was supportive throughout the course, checking in regularly and answering any questions. She also checked in on my well-being at our monthly meetings. I could contact her by e-mail or phone whenever I needed. She was friendly, happy and welcoming to talk to, I felt I could ask anything.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has helped me to understand the thery behind the practical, particularly in areas I was already applying in my role but was not aware I was doing it and why what I was doing was benefiting my team. It also highlighted to my team are made of individuals and they all need different support and leadership at different times.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Their is a running group, however, the time it runs I can not do if working and not keen to come back to work on a day off for. Their are sports teams I am aware of but not joined myself, including yoga and football. We have an ACP group and professional events are hightlighted.
