Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently on a placement in Children in Need. I am responsible for sending out a news letter on a weekly basis which involves any updates throughout the charity and also some positive news stories and good things people have done in work. I am also working on helping to organise an all staff event for the whole charity to get together.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying the programme currently, the team i am working with, children in need, are really welcoming and helpful, everyone is willing to let me get involved in what suits me. The organisation has a great working culture and ensure everyone had a good work life balance. I struggle more with the university side as it is delivered virtually so i don't always get as much support as i would like.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I spend time completing a range of training courses around project management. Within my current placement i am working on a data project around how the organisation track their processing activities. Data is not something that is currently a skill of mine so i am working on this. Whilst working and also completing a university course, i am also focusing on improving my time management skills to ensure i continue to meet all deadlines, even in busy periods.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Within my placement, my work is organised and structured well. I know what is expected of me at all times. However, i would find it useful to know the other placement options throughout the programme so i am able to consider what KSBs (knowledge, skills and behaviours) are more suited to other placements. On the other hand, the university isn't as well organised as i would like, i would prefer to find out assignment information earlier as it can be very last minute at times.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is great at giving support. I am dyslexic and this has only recently been discovered so work have been great at providing software's, resources and training to support me in both work and university. I am also currently struggling with my mental health and my scheme managers and placement manager could not have been more supportive. i will always be grateful for this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
My university course is delivered online, so i do not receive as much support as i would like. It is really difficult to not be able to go into uni to have a face to face conversation with the tutors or other students on the cohort about any issues relating to the content or upcoming assignments. The feedback given by the university is often very vague and doesn't help us moving forward on how to improve.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
As expected, some areas of the qualification related more to my role than others. However, the qualification is heavily based around being related to construction sector employees. This makes it difficult when working in a broadcasting public service company as we struggle to find examples to fit the brief of the assignments, compared to those working or knowledgeable around the construction sector.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes definitely, there are lots of things at work to get involved in, a range of different groups and social events to get involved in. As an apprentice at the BBC, every member of staff loves to get you involved with any event they have going on so its a great chance to network and find other apprentices or other departments you may want to work in in the future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The BBC is a great place to work, everyone is very friendly, the offices are a very welcoming and relaxing environment, where hopefully everyone feels as though they can be themselves. The organisation are very understanding around flexible and hybrid working which i think is great and the support from managers is really good.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Just apply! Have confidence in your own ability! Be yourself in the interview and show off your skills and your experience. Find examples of how you have shown a range of different skills and also how you have built up on these. The induction process is so informative and everyone in the organisation is so helpful!
