Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as assessment and support planner involves carrying out care act assessments to source and implement care packages for patients with a mental health diagnosis. It is also my job to review these care packages frequently to ensure they are receiving an appropriate level of care and amend them where and if needed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I have been very passionate about social work since being on the receiving end of services myself. The programme is very informative and it’s amazing to be able to learn from my peers who come from a lot of different areas within social care.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Mental health is fairly new to me, having only worked in this field for 2 years so I constantly learn and develop my skills. For example my communication skills. Patients with mental health diagnosis may struggle to communicate especially when responding to stimuli therefore I have adapted my communication methods to meet their individual needs.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured very well. Although I will say some of the assignments seem repetitive. The lecturers are very good at delivering their presentations whilst allowing students to have a say and discuss topics as we go. I find it very helpful that we are able to do this rather that just listening.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer to be able to complete my uni work and assignments. They are very flexible and as long as I have completed my daily work, they are happy for me to work on assignments. They are also very helpful with proofreading my assignments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support from MMU for my programme. I have a skills coach who remains in contact with me aswell as the lecturers. I’ve found that anything I need support with someone will have an answer and if they don’t they know where to pinpoint me to
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel my programme is helping me perform my role better as I am always learning new things, exploring new theories, and reflecting on my practice to see what went well and what could be better. I’ve learnt a lot already and have found myself automatically implementing it into my practices
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are professional networking events available within my work however I have not yet attended any. There is also a lot of seminars and training that is available.

Would you recommend Rochdale Council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I’ve worked for Rochdale council for 5 years now and they’ve been nothing but supportive throughout my journey. It is a very positive environment to be in and the work you do is very rewarding through reciprocity. I have even won awards during my time at the council which RBC have nominated me for. Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rochdale Council?
I would say just go for it regardless of how nervous you may be. It will open so many doors for your career path. And as I said it is so rewarding. They recognise your hard work and reward you for it. There is a wide range of professionals within RBC and once you have your foot in with them they will support you all the way
