Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I assist in an apprentices journey from start to finish. I assist with Careers Fairs, Presentations etc to gain interest. I then guide managers on how to recruit apprentices and provide information. I shortlist where requested and interview with the managers. I provide an apprentice induction and aid in supporting the apprentices through their journey. I have one to ones with apprentices, run a monthly apprentice forum and set up things I feel would benefit the learners such as a monthly wellbeing session provided by a psychiatrist. I work with providers to gain progress reports and if required assist with action plans.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy learning about procedures and how to professionally assist and support apprentices. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me as a single mother who did not think I could do an apprenticeship or go to college due not having a wage. I have found my ideal career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. I started as an administrator and through my apprenticeship have gained knowledge, skills and behaviours to confidently take on a more mentoring role and be more involved with supporting the learners and addressing anything they may raise rather than a heavily administrative role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I find the programme works wellto enable me to be able to learn, progress and still manage my very busy role. My assessor is very nurturing yet informative and as someone with ADHD and ASD who could not manage college this is an ideal way of learning for me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is very supportive and understanding, especially with additional needs. I feel the opportunity to progress is very much encouraged.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider is very supportive and accommodating to my needs. They have a flexible approach which again is brilliant for enabling me to progress based around my working and outside of work requirements.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Prior to this apprenticeship I would not have had the confidence to effectively and professionally support apprentices. I also had no knowledge of the Legislations, Regulations and Codes of Conduct to handle situations that may arise.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I believe so however being a single mother and having a busy job means I have chosen not to explore these. I do try to run events for our apprentices that I feel would benefit them such as a Mental Health Awareness Week wellbeing session. There are opportunities I have taken to further my skills alongside the apprenticeship, such as the Mental Health First Aid and Suicide First Aid courses. We also have CPD funding that I have utilised for the Safeguarding 16-25 Year Olds course.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because I feel our organisation is fantastic at providing opportunities, nurturing and understanding. Our organisation supports those with Mental Health and Disabilities/ Neurodiversity.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Even if your workload is busy you will only be given one assignment to do once a month so make time for this to stay on target. Also ensure you keep your 20% OTJ updated. If you need support reach out to the apprenticeship team as they are there to support you.
