Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role varies, depending on the project I am assigned to. Currently, as a Test Automation engineer, I run and execute scripts that create data for testing purposes. I don't need to worry about being inexperienced since I am provided with the training I need to get the job done. I am not fixed in my Test Automation role and moving fields within tech is definitely feasible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme very much. The company itself is huge (which has its drawbacks when it comes to trying to get in touch with someone) and there is so much to explore when it comes to deciding the career path I want to take. Accenture also heavily encourages volunteering and it is fulfilling as an apprentice to be able to provide insights on what life is like for me. There are lots of opportunities for me to upskill too.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

As a result of this apprenticeship, I have gained an industry recognized cloud qualification (certified AWS Cloud Practitioner), which already gives me an advantage in my career. Having had no prior experience with testing, I can now create and execute scripts using a Selenium framework. My coding skills have also improved as a result of learning Java for one of my university modules.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

University is pretty well structured. We have set modules to study for every week. However, I would not day the projects we are assigned to for work are as consistent. There is an internal system which heavily relies on networking with the right people, which can make it a tedious process, especially for new joiners.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Our HR team is very good at contacting higher ups and flagging issues regarding teams we are a part of not being aware of our situation as apprentices (e.g. asking us to work when we are at university). Although general response times are slow, they are dedicated to making sure we get the support we need. However, people at the company are generally very accommodating.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our university is very good at ensuring we have the resources we need. For example, we have been provided best case examples of coursework to give us a rough idea of how to structure what we say. The apprentices who have done their first year are very helpful. We also have dedicated study days which we can use as a day off for the purpose of working towards our qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The coding we did for one of our university modules significantly helped when it came to understanding best practices for code. The soft skills we have picked up through our assignments (e.g. presenting, team collaboration) help us communicate more effectively with clients, thus allowing us to provide more value for the company. However, due to the nature of the job, our qualification isn't always direct relevant, which isn't necessarily a downside.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The company holds various social events, some of the purpose of just enjoying yourself with the people around you, others for networking. There are lots of sports societies available within the company, with key contacts noted down if you want to enquire further. Accenture is also heavily involved with social mobility, allowing apprentices to speak at schools on the company's behalf to give an insight into what life is like as an apprentice. There are lots of volunteering opportunities available.

The company is huge and there are lots of opporunities to network with experts in their respective fields. They hold many social events and there is a large emphasis on making everyone feel welcome and included. The learning opporunities are endless and if you contact the right people, they can direct you to the best resources to learn from. The company itself is also at the forefront when it comes to technology and innovation.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
Get to know the company really well! They love it when you show you've researched what the company stands for and how you think you fit into that vision. While technical skills are great to have, the main thing they're looking for is how you personality shines, as well as your passion for tech!
