Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a typical day working remotely on this internship:
- I joined the stand-up at 9am to hear about my team's work and update them on mine.
- I met with my supervisor(s) and spoke to them more in depth about any issues I was facing
- I did a lot of practical software development!
- I attended events (workshops, interviews, mentoring meetings) run for interns throughout
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of opportunities to work practically on the real software. One of the highlights of my time there was adding functionality to the application that my team started using straight away. However, I was working just on the development branch - not the production application - which meant I didn't have to worry too much about strict deadlines or making mistakes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I was able to up-level my Java development skills, and learned a lot about Spring, Spring Boot, Maven, Kubernetes and Cloud Deployment in general. I was also able to use version control at a higher level than before. There were many excellent learning resources made available to me.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed working at this internship. I felt that I learned more in the 9 weeks than my previous 3 years at uni! My team were very welcoming, and I even got a chance to meet them face-to-face at a team lunch. I'm very excited to return again to this internship program next year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend J.P. Morgan to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
Apply as early as you can - the process is quite long so it is better to not delay it. For the HireVue coding interview, if you know you didn't quite get the answer, explain why in the video segment after it. The assessment centre can feel quite intense - make sure you can explain software concepts clearly. But it's better to say you don't know something than trying to make it up!
