Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently working in accounts receivable where i used to work in credit control chasing debt on the ledgers i had responsibility for now I've moved to the billing team which involves creating invoices and credit notes. My apprenticeship involves rotations into different finance departments
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my role. The flexibility for studying is amazing - I can use spare time at work to study and prepare for my exams in addition I can also prepare coursework / portfolio during quiet working hours. They offer lots of networking opportunities, for example I attended an expenses paid networking trip to Manchester to meet other apprentices and graduates

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've been enrolled in workshops to improve my communication and presentation skills which I enjoyed taking part in. You have lots of opportunities as an apprentice to develop your skills. I have rotations into different teams where ive learnt different processes and skills, this has also improved my confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my emerging talents manager Danielle and line managers support your studying. Kaplan have a timeline set out to follow a structure of which exams to take and when which I found useful. Also there is a timeline to the apprenticeship to guide you through the program.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I think I have received a lot of support from my employer. I am allowed to take study days to attended college classes and my exam. I am also allowed a half day before my exam to study work free. This allows you to balance the college side and work side of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The tutor always offers a lot of support through classroom and email. Alternative resources are also available should the tutor take a while to respond. We are given lots of materials to prepare for our exams which makes me feel more prepared in comparison to an apprenticeship I done before this one.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I don't think my qualification directly links to my roles ive been in so far during my apprenticeship but I enjoy learning the content and hope to be able to apply the knowledge I learn the more i progree through my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have a group called n life, this is a team of employees who manage the budget for staff entertainment. We organise events in and outside the office to get people into the office more and networking with each other. For example, we have surf lessons and also celebrated national doughnut day by giving free doughnuts.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
In my opinion, it stands out to other companies i have worked for previously, they do a lot for their staff (including nlife) and offer good opportunities for apprentices to progress their careers. I must say one of my favorite parts is the fact I get to rotate into different teams.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Be yourself and be honest what you are looking to get out of your apprenticeship
