Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am an apprentice travel advisor. In my role I take enquiries for holidays both instore and over the phone, search for what customers are after and then ultimately go towards the booking process and taking payments. I also work in the bureau serving foreign exchange customers as well as completing my coursework.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship. When compared to other jobs I have had, it feels less like work and I enjoy my time more in the shop. The team I am with are a great group as well as the company being very supportive. It meets my expectations and more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am working towards a level 3 qualification / equivalent of 2 a levels. This is building on my qualification from college in travel and tourism. Instore I also have completed a number of internal training courses on specific knowledge or skills such as Disney holidays or general maths and english.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My apprenticeship seems well structured with specific hours for learning and training off the job. I also have monthly calls with my coach in which we set out a plan for the month ahead. This means I know what is needed and when and also know when I have chance to speak with my coach.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have received lots of support from my employer. My manager in store is always there to answer any questions/queries. I was also assigned a mentor in store who is supporting me day to day with both coursework and the job in general. I know there are people there to support me if I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider are great at providing support for my qualification. I have an assigned coach, this did get changed once however both have been more than helpful, giving me monthly training calls as well as being available for interim messages and calls if needed. I get update emails from them as well reviewing my progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My apprenticeship qualification is massively helping me to perform better in my role. My qualification is boosting my knowledge of things I wouldn't necessarily have picked up on in shop until a later date, and therefore when I do need the knowledge I am then prepared for the situation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Through my job, there have already been a number of social activities and events. We have had team meals, a christmas party and a turn of year training evening. We also attend supplier trade events as a team and have special themed days in store where we dress up and have activities ongoing throughout the day.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend a job at TUI to friends as it is a job that I really enjoy and I can feel my confidence building, which I know would really be a great bonus to some of my friends. It's a great environment and I feel my friends would be happy in this role/company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
I would say be prepared for anything. No day is the same and there always things you will never know, it's often more about knowing where to find the correct answer than actually knowing it yourself. Being a travel agent can often be seen as fairly simple, just searching for holidays, but you can actually need knowledge of maths too, for examples percentages.
