Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Apprentice BMS, helps BMS in their role, ensures lab standards are met, adheres to HCPC and IBMS guidelines and process patient samples.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it but after training and having learnt majority of things, it becomes mundane and repetitive, an overpacked day to day life of work and study, especially because we don't get normal breaks like a uni student: we just get the same breaks as other NHS employees.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Pipetting, learnt how to maintain various machines, how to process patient results, learnt about various rules, learnt how to carry out many tests manually on samples, how to enter results, how to double check standards of quality etc

How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receive a lot of support, but there is always room for improvement. It's easy to think of apprentices as normal employees since we do the same job, however outside of work we have a lot going on and deserve a little leniency.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Sometimes it does e.g. lab experiments help improve our lab skills for work, but it depends on modules since we all work in different departments, some modules can be irrelevant to the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Ultimately, it is a decent place to work, exasperating at times due to understaffing and pressure, but enjoyable.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Be prepared for the lack of free time.
